Daily Tip #6: GBBs

A question that seems to get asked a lot by airsoft newbies is whether they should start with a Gas Blowback (GBB) gun or not.

My answer to this is no, unless you realllllly want a GBB. The reason I say this is there are so many hassles that come with purchasing a gas blowback gun.

For starters,  it’s expensive. As a beginner getting a feel for airsoft, you don’t want to buy something too expensive and then realize later that you don’t like airsoft as much as you thought you would.

On top of that, you’ll have to keep constantly buying  gas when you run out, and gas ain’t cheap.

Another issue with GBB guns is that they require a lot of maintenance to stay in quality shape. If you can’t clean your gun consistently, you’re gonna have a bad time with a gas gun.

I feel like the extensive maintenance may dissuade new airsoft players from actually enjoying the game, so it would be a bad idea to get a gas gun as your first buy.

As you become more accustomed to the game, and gain more experience, then you can consider buying a GBB. But for the time being, get an AEG, play some games, and have some fun.
